Beginning Violin Class

This course will provide an introduction to classical violin playing through group instruction for students aged 8 years old and up. Information covered will include the parts of the violin and bow, proper posture for playing the violin while standing and sitting, appropriate bow hold and bow movement, pizzicato technique, appropriate left hand form and movement, basic left hand forms and notes, and group performance practice.  Initial lessons will be learned by rote using a letter and number system to aid memory.  Basic note reading will be introduced later in the course. Interested parents are encouraged to enroll in the course along with their children.  The course will end with a group recital.

Students will be expected to develop a habit of practicing 15 to 30 minutes a day, and they will be challenged to listen to violin music outside of class.  Please note that students will stand for the duration of the lesson. (Exceptions to the age requirement will be made on an individual basis.)

Students must provide their own instruments.  The instructor will be happy to advise parents and students about how to obtain instruments.
